2019 RACE FOR THE CURE FAQ

When and where is the 2019 Race for the Cure?

The Komen Oklahoma Race for the Cure is Saturday, September 28th at River Spirit Casino Resort near 81st & Riverside in Tulsa. Our race site is located at the southern end of the property in a large parking lot. You can’t miss it!

What is the timeline of events?

6:00 AM – Doors/Registration Opens

6:30 AM – Half Marathon Begins

7:00 AM – CTCA Village of Hope Survivor Tent Opens

7:30 AM – Timed 5K Begins

8:25 AM – Breast Cancer Survivor Parade Begins

8:30 AM – More Than Pink Program Begins

9:00 AM – Untimed 5K Begins

10:00 AM – 1 Mile Fun Run Begins

 

There is rain in the forecast for Saturday. Will you still hold the race?

Yes, our event will happen rain or shine. We encourage everyone to dress accordingly! In the event of severe weather, we may decide to postpone or reschedule the race. That decision will be made on race morning.

How do I enter the CTCA Village of Hope Survivor Tent?

All breast cancer survivors will receive 2 pink wrist bands in their race packets for entry to the survivor tent. Only those with the wrist band will be allowed to enter.

Can I purchase extra wrist bands for entry into the CTCA Village of Hope Survivor Tent?

Yes, they are $10 each and you can purchase extras on race day.

What is included in the CTCA Village of Hope Survivor Tent?

Everyone entering the tent will be treated to a complimentary breakfast provided by Panera. Survivors will also receive a pink ticket to drop into one of our raffle bins and one of our special survivor goodie bags!

What is the Pink it Up Costume Contest?

Attendees in the CTCA Village of Hope Survivor Tent are encouraged to dress up in costumes this year! We will be holding a special costume contest in the tent at 7:30 AM to choose the top three costumes. The top three winners will each receive a special prize.

When and where is the annual breast cancer survivor photo?

We will be taking our annual breast cancer survivor photo just outside the CTCA Village of Hope Survivor Tent at 8:15 AM.

Where can I park?

All parking lots and the large parking garage at River Spirit Casino are accessible for parking on race day. All lots are first come, first serve! This year, there will also be FREE valet service at 2 different locations on property.

Is there designated survivor parking?

Unlike last year, survivors will not receive parking passes. However, survivors will have access to the parking lot across from the race site and we are encouraging all non-survivor participants to park in the parking garage and other designated parking lots that will have shuttle service.

Is there designated handicapped parking near the race site?

River Spirit Casino has several areas with handicapped parking. There will be very limited parking blocked off specifically for handicap parking in the parking lot next to the race site. It will be first come, first serve. River Spirit Casino will have free valet service available at their main entrances that you can use. We will also have shuttle services taking people from the various parking lots and valet entrances to the race site so you won’t have to walk long distances.

Where can I pick up by breast cancer running ribbon stickers?

Komen Oklahoma has tried to secure the running ribbon stickers for our survivors again this year. However, the company producing the stickers has changed and we were unable to secure any for this year. If any become available, we will send out communication to our survivors through email. We are sorry for the disappointment this may cause.

Will there be food and beverages available on site?

Yes, we will have several food trucks and vendors selling food and drinks on race morning. Food vendors include: Linam Up Grill, SPASTIC COW, The Traveling Bean Company, Bullsrockincafe, Squeeze Me Lemonade, Waffle That, The Give Back Shack, and Coffee House on Your Street.

Can I bring in outside food and drink to the race?

Yes.

Where should I go if I am injured?

We will have medical personnel staged throughout the race site and along the race route. Please flag down a member of the medical or volunteer team to help you and evaluate if you need further medical assistance.

Where should I go if I can’t locate my child?

It is always a great idea to take a photo of your children BEFORE you head to any public setting. In the event your child goes missing, you will have a recent photo to share with authorities that will help identify what your child currently looks like and is wearing. If you can’t locate your child, don’t panic! We have trained staffers throughout the race site who are ready to help. Please find your way to the Lost Child location in our registration tent for further assistance.

I paid for a new 2019 College for the Cure shirt, but it wasn’t included in my packet. How can I get that shirt?

Our popular College for the Cure shirts are still being printed and will be available on race morning. You should have received a coupon in your race packet that you can redeem for your shirt on race morning. If you paid for a shirt but didn’t receive a coupon, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Are strollers allowed?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your strollers along with you in any of the untimed events.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, you can register your dogs to walk with you in any of the untimed events. Our Paws for the Cure upgrade is $10 and you will receive a special pink bandana for your dog to wear!

I’m running in one of the timed events, but can’t find my timing chip. Where is it?

You will not have a separate timing chip for your shoe to participate in the Komen Oklahoma Race for the Cure. The timing chips are located on the back of your race bibs, so please make sure to wear those on race day. You will need to wear the bib on your front side to for the tag to properly register your time.

Is there any place for me to store my belongings while I run?

Yes, UPS will be offering gear check at the race again this year. You can store items like keys, phones, purses, etc so you don’t have to worry about carrying them with you while you run.

When will my race results be made available and how do I access that information?

We will have your results immediately available after the race! You can get your results at our race registration table following your run. We will also post the full results on our website and social media pages one they’re available.

Will I receive a medal?

Everyone participating in our half-marathon or timed 5K will receive a medal after crossing the finish line.

Is there an area for my kids to play?

Yes, we will be designating an area as our special kids zone again this year. The kids zone includes three large inflatables, an obstacle challenge, a slide, and the princess castle.

Can I take my own pictures or videos during the race?

Yes, you are allowed to take pictures or videos of any of the activities for personal use.


Can I fly a drone to capture aerial video on race day?

No, flying drones over crowds is prohibited for the general public. Our Race for the Cure site is also within Jones Riverside Airport’s airspace and you are not allowed to fly drones without their clearance.
